A while back we found this Fairbanks Company factory cart in the condition pictured below. The outside casters looked like shopping cart casters and none of the wood was original. We paid a visit to our lumber supplier and picked up some reclaimed brown oak from Tennessee and completely rebuilt the factory cart. We were able to source the original outside casters as well to complete the timeless look of a Fairbanks Company factory cart.
Here it is after the restoration.
After cleaning all of the iron components, we were able to reveal years of different colors of paint that have been used.
Love the character of the reclaimed brown oak top.
Each carriage bolt was individually made to look “hammered” to give it a more rustic feel.
After a few hours of fine grit sanding and a couple coats of a water-based poly, the surface is perfectly smooth.
The finished product.
